About Me

Welcome to The Nagging Naturalist

Thanks for stopping by! Let me start by introducing myself. My name is Kristen and I am a naturalist, educator, volunteer, college student, and frequenter of parks, museums, zoos, aquariums, nature centers, and wildlife refuges. I’ve spent the last 5 years addressing myths and misconceptions surrounding wildlife and conservation where I “nag” about these issues and offer alternatives and solutions. A few years ago, I started The Nagging Naturalist as a way to share my adventures to the various places listed above and continue to address the issues surrounding wildlife conservation.

At the end of 2019, I decided I wanted to invest more in my naturalist content by creating a website and a podcast. My hope is that I reach a broader audience to teach them about the value of wildlife conservation and what they can do to participate in conservation and share the message with others. I believe in the idea that people will protect what they love and people struggle to love what they do not understand. Education is at the heart of wildlife conservation, culturing passion and empathy.

I am currently studying for a bachelor of science at the University of Maryland. My major is environmental science with a minor in natural science. I currently/previously have worked/volunteered as a wildlife/conservation educator at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, National Aquarium, Maryland Zoo, and Calvert Marine Museum over the past 5 years. I combined my education and years of experience in creating my content to make information about wildlife and conservation more accessible.

If you have any questions or comments, pop by the Contact page to reach out to me directly. All of the wildlife photographs on this website are my own and the beautiful artwork you see came from @charwiewie on Twitter!

Thank you for visiting!
